Yesteryear Collection

BMW produced the 507 2-seater sports car to enhance their prestige as suppliers of performance oriented quality cars. This 2-seater sports car was developed from the first German V8 car, the BMW 501. Having a capacity of 3108 cc the engine developed 150 bhp at 5000 rpm and drove through a 4-speed gearbox, giving according to axle ratio a maximum speed of between 118-137 mph (190-220 kph). From an already limited production, less than 100 are known to have survived today. This is a Special Edition, produced as part of a worldwide issue - total production quantity = 60,000 units.

The BMW 507 is a Roadster built in Germany from 1956 to 1959. A total of 254 were built with a V8 3.2 liter engine that delivered 150 hp. The car was not popular and gave BMW a big blow. The export to America was also disappointing, a total of 39 were shipped. Today the car is a very popular collector's item and very expensive.

The (Y21-4) 1957 BMW 507 joined the range in 1988 as a Special Limited Edition. The model was unique in that it featured an opening bonnet which revealed a detailed engine.

Variations/Rarities: There was only the one colour released and no promotionals were issued.

Interesting Facts: All BMWs have filing marks to the underside of the bonnet as it was found that the bonnet would not close properly. The bonnets were not repainted leaving them with a patch of bare metal showing and a bonnet which still did not close properly.
It had originally been designated Y33 as the inside of the roof and underneath of the bonnet are both marked YY33.
It was painted in what the motor trade calls "Doom Blue" and it has no less than 21 chrome plated parts
At a scale of 1:38, it was considered too large to be included in the newly 'revived' Dinky Collection.
